DESCRIPTION:Backpack Collection: This summer\, our Sunday School class has been “praying around the world.” Through these lessons\, we are reminded how fortunate we are to have access to education regardless of age\, gender\, or socioeconomic status.  One World One Love\, a non-profit organization committed to supporting and resettling refugees\, is in need of new backpacks for students moving to New Jersey.  A donation box will be located in the atrium through the month of August and will be prayed over during our backpack blessings on September 4th.  Thank you for supporting this ministry and helping a child feel welcomed and loved.

DESCRIPTION:  \nART and SOUL: Put on your art smock and join us in Barnwell Hall\nSunday\, April 24th from 2-4PM\n  \nOur very own art teacher\, Katy Briber\, will guide us\nas we paint Sunflowers for Ukraine.\n\nIf you are unable to join us in person on that day\,\nyou are invited to paint Sunflowers on a canvas or watercolor paper\nand send it to the church by April 29 to be included in the exhibit.\n\nPaintings will be on display and for sale in Barnwell Hall\nat an artist’s reception during Coffee Hour on Sunday\, May 1st\nimmediately following our church service.\n  \nAll proceeds will go to Ukraine \n“Slava Ukraini” (Glory to Ukraine)

SUMMARY:Maundy Thursday
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nJoin us on Thursday\, April 14th at 7:30 P.M. for our Maundy Thursday service.\n\n  \n+The Office of Tenebrae with Holy Communion\n         The Office of Tenebrae is patterned after an early Fourth Century Office (ceremony) in which a strict rule of silence was observed.  This evening\, meditate upon the fact that it was on Maundy Thursday that twelve disciples were with Jesus in the upper room for their last meal together.  Although they did not understand it\, they gathered at that table in the shadow of the cross.\n         The Office of Tenebrae (which means\, “darkness” or “shadows”) is phrased in words of scripture\, without comment.  The responses after each pair of readings are intended to help us in our meditation.  The scriptures portray the Passion of Jesus from the time of fellowship in the upper room to the hour of loneliness and betrayal in the garden.  The extinguishing of the lights is symbolic of the flight of the disciples and the approach of our Lord’s death.  The Christ candle is carried back into worship on Easter as a symbol of Christ’s resurrection.\n         The word “Maundy” is derived from the Latin\, “Mandatum Novum” and refers to Jesus’ “New Commandment.”
