  Christ Church in Winter

We're situated on the corner of Springfield Ave and New England Ave in Summit NJ, diagonally across from the Grand Summit Hotel.  (Scroll down this page for written driving directions.) Springfield Ave is the main shopping street of Summit, and we're one block West of the shopping district. (Springfield Ave continues West to become the "main street" of New Providence and Berkeley Heights.) The main entrance to the church complex is around the corner on New England Ave, across the patio.

TRAINS:   You can also reach Summit by train on New Jersey Transit trains from New York City's Penn Station (34th and 7th Ave). Here is a link to their online schedules: [ NJ Transit schedules ]. Choose "New York Penn Station" and "Summit" as departing and destination stations, and select Weekday, Saturday or Sunday. On that page you can also obtain itineraries to Summit from other cities.

If you take the train to Summit you can walk to Christ Church in 10-12 minutes -- but you need directions!

  1. If you come from New York (or other places like Hoboken and Jersey City that are East of Summit), we strongly urge that after you get off the train you walk to the center of the platform, and ascend a flight of stairs to a small concourse.
  2. There's an exit at each end of the concourse. Walk out through the exit marked "East Broad Street".
  3. If you don't see the ticket booth to your left just before you go out the door, you are coming out of the wrong side of the station! Turn completely around, walk back through the station and come out the other side.
  4. Cross the street, and walk a short block straight ahead.
  5. Turn right onto Broad Street.
  6. Walk four blocks to a 7-Eleven store and traffic light, and turn right onto Morris Ave.
  7. Walk one block to another traffic light and turn left onto Springfield Ave.
  8. Walk one more block to New England Ave. Christ Church is the stone church on the near-right-hand corner.
  9. The main entrance is around the corner, up 5 steps, across a stone patio, and through a pair of glass doors.

This route is depicted here: [ Google walking map from train station to Christ Church ]

BUSES:   There are also buses to Summit from NY City and many locations in New Jersey, also run by NJ Transit. You can check out their bus schedules here: NJ Transit Bus Schedules. Most buses make a stop across the street from the Train Station -- but it is across Broad Street which is on the opposite side of the Train Station relative to the walking instructions above.

Parking

Christ Church is situated on the corner of Springfield Ave (which is Summit's main street) and New England Ave (a side street lined with condos).

We have a small parking lot off of New England Ave (behind our complex) which holds perhaps 20 cars. We also have a semicircular driveway in front of our patio & main entrance on New England Ave which has two handicapped parking spots. Beyond that, we rely on curbside parking, which is allowed on both streets. Usually there are only a handful of free spots on Springfield Ave, so for services & large events, most people park along New England Ave. The condos on both sides of N.E. Ave have their own parking, so there are always plenty of spaces available on the street, but you may have to walk a few paces, so come early.
