Dream On, Sisters! -- Gathering at UCC Annual Meeting

Dear Jeannette,

 

The first-ever historic joint gathering for UCC and Disciples women is coming up soon!  DREAM ON, SISTERS! - also known as the MIX IN '06 – will be in Indianapolis June 21-25. 

 

The event promises to be inspiring for all who attend.  On the program:

  • Dynamic preaching  - including preaching by former Justice and Witness Ministries’ Executive Minister, the Rev. Bernice Powell Jackson; also the Rev. Nancy Sehested, the Rev. Daisy Machado, Ms. Claudia de LaCruz and Ms. Sandhya Jha
  • Various justice-oriented workshops on topics including women and peacemaking, reproductive rights, media violence awareness, and women and HIV/AIDS
  • Opportunities to serve the local community
  • A Mix Choir
  • A combined performance by Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon (founder of Sweet Honey in the Rock), Holly Near (singer, activist, social change artist) and Carrie Newcomer (singer/songwriter and story teller) who are collaborating for the first time will surely energize participants who believe that another world is possible.

A special fund is available for those attending, teaching or working at UCC or Disciples related seminaries to help with registration, hotel and travel costs.  The deadline to apply for funds is extended to April 30. 

 

Register now!  Many conferences are offering assistance to women who want to attend, as are local churches. The registration fee of $375 will go up after May 1.  (The fee includes 6 meals, a tote bag made by a collective of women in Bolivia, a charm, and more!)   Busses are being chartered from many cities to bring both UCC and DOC women to Indianapolis.  You can find out if there is one traveling from your area by calling the Mix Office:  (317) 713-2651.
