The Board of World Fellowship is committed to encouraging the volunteer efforts of Christ Church members. If you are involved in a volunteer building or mission project the board might be able to contribute to the project. For example, one of our church members went with a Basking Ridge church last spring to work on Katrina relief. World Fellowship funded some Home Depot gift cards for use in the project. We also have some scholarship aid available to fund individuals who would like to participate in projects. If you have questions, talk to Laurie Rufolo, Chair of World Fellowship.

DONATIONS TO NICARAGUA: On Saturday, Oct.13, please help Christ Church participate in PeaceWorks’ 52nd container shipment of humanitarian aid to Nicaragua. This time, something new: our staging area will be the Westy Storage Center*, 15 River Road, Chatham. Please box your donations ahead of time, label them simply, and bring them over any time from 8:30 to noon. Look for the “Nicaragua” sign.

What’s needed:

1) Summer-weight clothes and shoes, baby items, school supplies.

2) Household items for our friends at Asociacion Inhijambia, who are opening a new Welcome Center. They need tables, chairs, refrigerator, oven, freezer, washing machine, blender, mixer, large pots and pans, flatware, cooking utensils, sheets, towels, etc. You’ll find their complete wish list on the Christ Church website: www.ccsnj.com

If you want to donate a large item and can’t transport it yourself, please tell us and we’ll pick it up for you:

Marilyn Devroye .

Dan Ocone .

*Directions to Westy Storage Center: In Summit, go west on Morris Avenue all the way to the end. Left on River Road, Summit. Bear right around the bend. First left onto River Road, Chatham. Westy Storage is on your left.

GREENFAITH WORKSHOP: This workshop will be conducted by Rev. Fletcher Harper, Executive Director of GreenFaith, New Jersey's interfaith coalition for the environment. It is sponsored by the Summit Coalition on Climate Change and will be held on Sunday afternoon September 30, 2007, at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m.

Participants will have the opportunity to develop an energy conservation plan for their own house of worship which can apply to their homes. There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is required. For more information about the workshops, go to the GreenFaith website, www.greenfaith.org or call Rev Harper. Or you can contact Anne Marie Treger or Beverly Hausker.

Green Bible Verse: And God saw everything that God had made, and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31

Green Tip: Be a good neighbor with smart control of weeds and insect pests. Lawn chemicals affect the entire community. A recent article in the Wall Street Journal compared lawn pesticides to second hand smoke. What gets sprayed on your lawn doesn't affect only you.

Meditation for Moms: Be the Parent You Want to Be. Become more peaceful, focused and balanced with this four-week introduction to meditation especially tailored for mothers. We’ll discover how to invite peace into our hearts, bodies and homes using “active” meditation techniques including chanting and guided meditations. We’ll also work on clearing blocks and limitations that are keeping us from being the parents we wish to be. Please bring a journal and pen to the first class. Maureen Jeffries; 4 Thursdays beg. Oct. 4; 1-2 p.m.; $60 for the series; $15 per session; Interweave, 31 Woodland Ave., Summit; Registration/information: 908-277-2120.
